Mission
The Green Gifting Campaign is a public service campaign
to encourage and facilitate a new culture of sustainable gift giving among
individuals through promotion, education, and freely distributed Green Gifting
identity materials.
It is our hope that parents, children, teens, businesses,
and organizations will embrace this new culture with enthusiasm and care
knowing there is only one earth for us to share and that preserving life
as we know it will require changing our behavior and, to some extent, our
lifestyles.
So many of us are overwhelmed by the dimensions of the problem
of global warming and, while it's true that governments and corporations
will have to provide the major changes in resources and technology, we must
do our part.
The most effective way to begin is to change
our shopping behavior. We all shop. Everything we consume has a cost, not
just to us, but to the planet's resources. Whether it's the energy used
to make the product, the transportation used to deliver it, the packaging
used to market it, the resources the merchant uses to display it, the waste
it generates when we have consumed it, and how what we use impacts those
around us.
Our main goal is to help you become aware of alternate choices
in products and gifts that either use fewer resources, use natural or sustainable
materials, use materials that do not offgas harmful emissions into the environment,
can be reabsorbed safely into the environment after use, or can be used
over and over again. So gifts, such as services, use very few resources.
A massuse or business coach uses only those resources necessary to maintain
their offices. The actual service they provide requires nothing but human
energy — and we all know that is an abundant and renewable resource. |
